Upgrade instructions

Upgrade directly from version 2.3.2 or any newer release. Do not uninstall the existing add-on because uninstalling can remove saved Chatbox data.

After upgrading, perform one hard browser refresh to ensure the newest JavaScript and styling are loaded.

Compatibility: XenForo 2.3.7 or newer.

This update introduces secure local-device image uploads and additional display controls for Chatbox images.

What’s new:

• Members can attach JPG, PNG, GIF and WebP images directly from their devices.
• Supports text with an image or image-only messages.
• Added a compact paperclip attachment icon.
• Moved the paperclip to the right of the Muted users button for a cleaner layout.
• Added separate ACP settings for maximum image display width and height.
• Images preserve their original proportions and remain responsive on mobile devices.
• Uploaded files are stored securely in XenForo’s protected internal-data directory.
• Added a dedicated user-group permission for uploading images.
• Added a configurable upload-size limit from 1–25 MB.
• Images are automatically removed when their messages are deleted, purged or removed through scheduled cleanup.
• Removed the PHP Fileinfo dependency, fixing the “Class finfo not found” error on servers where the extension is unavailable.
• Includes the optional XenForo Resource Manager dependency improvement, allowing Chatbox to install and operate without XFRM.

Default image display size: 640 × 360 pixels.

Upgrade directly over the previous version. Uninstalling first is not required, and existing messages, settings and licensing information are preserved.

Compatible with XenForo 2.3.7 and newer.
